Designing a user experience for content applications requires a finely tuned profile of the user and how they will use and consume the content. Users of content applications have a variety of interests which requires the user interface to be simple, yet capable of supporting hi-definition searches, ad-hoc collections of interest, social media sharing and quick browsing.
I recently developed an interface and user experience for a visual search prototype that would allow producers of video content to search and locate videos based upon the video content. I introduced several new views for video search information: "More like this..." Faces, Closed Captions, and Concepts. The concepts were an entirely new element for visual search that provided the end user with the capability to search on visual concepts and view what concepts were within a video, such as "plane crash," "urban unrest", "mountain skylines," etc.
